Two Teachers Got Fired After An Autistic Boy Went To School With A Hidden Recorder In Backpack
Camden Davis is a 12-year-old boy from Baton Rogue, Louisiana, and he had been attending the Hope Academy last year. It’s an academy that specializes in teaching special needs students, and they promote “inclusion, encouragement, positive relationships and recognition of student accomplishment” – according to their website.
His mother Milissa enrolled Camden, who is severely autistic at the Hope Academy, hoping to give him the proper support and understanding environment where the boy could learn at his own pace. However, she noticed some increased distress in her son after coming home from school, and she had the feeling that something was wrong.
One day she decided to put a recording device in his backpack, so she could understand what was causing his unhappiness (as he is unable to vocalize it himself). What she found was shocking! Her son Camden was being bullied, but not by his classmates of the kids in the playground. The autistic boy was bullied by the specially trained teachers who were supposed to support him.
Melissa said: “I’m sad and heartbroken that this happened to Camden. I am his biggest advocate and his biggest fighter for justice. No child should have to have this happen to them. I brought this to light because I wanted my son to be the last kid that this happened to at this school. This is happening all over the world, and people need to learn to accept kids and adults with Autism. They have a light in them that shines so bright.”
Camden is at a new school now, and his new teacher treats him well. However, the boy still suffers some effects from his horrifying experience from the school he used to visit. His mother says that he is still having severe anxiety and he is wetting the bed. Bullying is terrible when it’s kids-on-kids, but it’s much, much worse when it’s adults that are picking on your child.
